In the Court of Crimson Queen

In the Court of Crimson Queen

She tips toes like a gentle secret and takes the princess to a dark chamber,
A chamber made of rubies and crystals,
And they make the princess sit beside the queen,
"welcome" says the queen, "Welcome to the court of the crimson queen"

The first day, the princess is shackled in chains,
All she sees and feels is pain, dark as the red sunset,
And the  queen looks on, plays with the wolves,
The princess cries softly, hoping to end this pain,

On second day, the princess is awake, made to drink the elixir of resilience,
So that she can come to life and feel the power,
The power flowing in her veins,

On third day, she get used to pain, the power flows through her heart,
As she dances with the wolves,
She is a Goddess of love, beauty and passion,
She is made to sit high on pedestal, where a red flower blooms out of her hand.

On fourth day, the princess is the queen of the court,
The parting queen gave her staff and her coat,
She hands over her crown and says- "now that you've come of age, be a Goddess always, my queen."

On fifth day, the princess wakes up not to a red morning, but a white winter morning,
Its a dream, she thinks, where she was the queen,
"No, it was not a dream, "whispered a voice in the wind,
"I'll see you again with the new moon" said the voice in the wind.

Notes :-  Period (s). The poem is about period/menses/chums/ or countless other names we tend to call them. Our women's special privilige, the one which actually makes us special. If I were to chronologically ask every woman in the world, how do they feel about periods, i am quite sure that everyone will have a different story.

Yet, they are a essential part of our lives, part of our conversation, sometimes a heart to heart conversation with guys too, who actually understand and not just plain curious about it. I have known some of my friends , who consider vagina and period as "dirty", and its a futile attempt on my part to explain it to them, that they are the most sacred organ of a woman's body. But well, each one has their own belief and it takes time to adapt to new concept and new understanding.

This is a poem, about a girl who has her periods about the first time, and its her mom (crimson queen) who helps her out. And i firmly believe that this is what periods are supposed to make us feel- powerful like Goddesses and yet vulnerable like a rose gently swaying in the wind. Oh yes ! we do totally own the mood swings brigade during the periods, binging on Icecream, milkshakes, chocolates is totally valid !

There is, I am quite sure, lots of literature written about and around Period Phenomenon, which unfortunately I am not aware about it. However, I do have this strong feeling, that if i start digging , that will be a different post and another interesting pile of #TBR list .

For now, thank you for reading this poem :)

PS-  the title of this poem/song is inspired by the song- Court of Crimson King
